Ok, so this is the very first post for Cupcakes for Kittens. I recently made this blog and a corresponding Facebook page to jumpstart my goal of creating a nonprofit organization that combines cats (which I love) and vegan cupcakes (which I love to eat). My intention is to have this nonprofit sell vegan desserts to raise money for cats, specifically feral cats. I'm part of a rescue called Furever Homes Animal Rescue which my mom started a several years ago. We feed/manage a local feral cat colony and are in the process of getting all the cats spayed/neutered. But it isn't easy! We have to trap the feral adults and get them fixed. Even with our vet's discount, it runs $70 for a female cat and $35 for a male. They tip the ear to identify the ones that have been caught, and then we release them back outside. However, since all the cats haven't been spayed/neutered yet, there are kittens. It's recently been kitten season, and we've trapped 8 kittens and are socializing them so we can adopt them out into their "furever homes". But they all have to be spayed/neutered, vaccinated and FeLV tested as well, so it's getting expensive.
Right now, we are paying for everything out of our own pockets. That's where Cupcakes for Kittens comes into play. I'm in the beginning stages of trying to create this so I can raise money to help pay for the costs associated with helping these cats. Most of the proceeds will go towards the vet bills but some will also help cover supplies like catfood (we average about a bag a week), papertowels, Feline Pine/Yesterdays News litter, gently used towels/sheets/blankets.
Right now, I'm in the process of planning an online vegan bakesale, so stay tuned for more information about that in the next few days!
